Boussole — Privacy Policy
2.1 Overview
Emotion Studio, Inc. ("we," "us," "our") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, share, and safeguard your information when you use the Boussole mobile app ("Boussole" or the "App").
By using Boussole, you agree to this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please discontinue use of the App.
2.2 Information We Collect
We collect information necessary to provide and improve Boussole.
A. Information you provide
- Sign in with Apple data: your unique Apple user identifier and, optionally, your Apple relay email.
- Sources you save: the links, posts, articles, notes, and other content you choose to save in Boussole.
B. Information generated through your use of the App
- Enriched content: the full text and metadata that we retrieve from the sources you save (for example, the contents of an article or post).
- Your interest model: an evolving profile of your interests, topics, and concerns that Boussole derives from the sources you save and how you interact with them. This model is used to personalize the App for you.
- Generated content: the relevance assessments and daily briefs that Boussole produces for you.
C. Information collected automatically
- Push notification tokens: device tokens generated via Firebase Cloud Messaging (FCM) to deliver your daily brief and other notifications.
- Technical and usage information: IP address, device type, operating system version, app version, and basic usage metrics, collected for performance, troubleshooting, and security.
2.3 How We Use Your Information
We use your data to:
- Create and manage your account;
- Retrieve and enrich the sources you save;
- Build and maintain your interest model and personalize your experience;
- Generate and deliver your daily brief and other notifications;
- Analyze usage to maintain and improve the App;
- Ensure stability, detect and prevent misuse, and maintain security;
- Comply with legal obligations.
We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
2.4 AI Processing and Service Providers
Boussole relies on artificial intelligence and third-party infrastructure to operate. To provide the service, we share certain data with the following service providers ("sub-processors"), which process it on our behalf:
- Anthropic, PBC — we send the content you save and elements of your interest model to Anthropic's Claude API to generate enrichments, relevance assessments, and your daily briefs. Anthropic processes this data as our service provider under its commercial API terms and, under those terms, does not use it to train its models by default.
- Supabase — hosts your account data, saved sources, enriched content, interest model, and generated briefs.
- Cloudflare — provides the compute infrastructure (serverless workers) that runs the App's backend.
- Google (Firebase Cloud Messaging) — delivers push notifications to your device.
- Sorsa — retrieves the full content of certain sources (such as posts and articles) for enrichment.
- Apple — provides Sign in with Apple and App Store services.
We share only the data necessary for each provider to perform its function.
2.5 Data Storage and Processing
Your data is stored and processed in the United States, primarily through Supabase (storage) and Cloudflare (compute). By using Boussole, you understand that your data is processed in the United States.
2.6 Sharing of Information
We share your data only in the following cases:
- With service providers (listed in Section 2.4) to operate the App;
- With legal authorities if required by law or to protect our rights, your safety, or the safety of others;
- In a business transfer, such as a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.
We never share your personal data with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
2.7 Data Retention and Deletion
We retain your data for as long as your account remains active.
You can permanently delete your account, and all associated data, at any time using the account-deletion option in the App's Settings. After deletion, your data is erased from our active systems within 30 days, except where retention is required by law.
2.8 Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data, to object to or restrict certain processing (including the automated profiling described in Section 2.2), and to withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at olive@emotionstudio.app. We will respond within the time frame required by applicable law. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
2.9 Children's Privacy
Boussole is intended for users aged 16 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 16. If we become aware that we have collected data from a user under 16, we will promptly delete it.
2.10 Security
We implement reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no online service can guarantee absolute security. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
2.11 International Users
If you access Boussole from outside the United States, you understand and consent that your information is transferred to and processed in the United States, which may have data protection laws different from those of your home country.
2.12 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The most recent version will always be available within the App, and the effective date at the top will indicate when it was last revised. If we make material changes, we may notify you via email or an in-app message.
